Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy
Within this qualification you will learn the skills and knowledge required to plan, provide and evaluate sports massage treatments for both sporting and non-sporting clients.
You will learn to treat individuals suffering from a wide range of conditions, such as muscle fatigue, lumbago/non- specific low back pain, and repetitive strain/overuse, non-acute type injuries
Entry requirements
There is no pre-requisite for this qualification, however, students will be over 16 and have the basic literacy and communication skills necessary for a level 3 qualification. Sports massage therapy can be a physically demanding occupation and candidates should have an appropriate level of physical fitness to embark on the course.
Qualification Units
This qualification comprises of five units:
- Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
- Principals of health and fitness
- Understand the principals of soft tissue dysfunction
- Professional practice in sports massage
- Sports massage treatments
Tuition for all units is included in the cost.
Assessment
In order to pass the course you must complete the following:
- A 70% pass rate in an Anatomy and Physiology exam
- Three observations: one in a clinical setting, one in an event setting and one in a non clinical setting
- Four assignments
There will be thorough guidance for all of the assessment criteria.
Course Format
Face to face course: Tuition will included both online learning content. Face to face learning will be delivered over 6-7 days
You theory units will be completed via online learning content along with weekly livestream class via ZOOM.
Completing the course face to face: Your practical tuition will all take place in the classroom.
Completing the course online: Your practical tuition taking place through online coaching. You will then complete a 2 day workshop to ensure you are fully prepared for your practical assessment.
Students will complete Anatomy & Physiology and The Principles of training as online modules. Face to face tuition will consist of all practical, and will prepare you for your practical assessment. During any face to face element you will practice on your peer students under supervision. In addition you will be expected to develop your skills by completing clients at home and attending sporting events. Your final practical assessment will be completed in the final day of the workshop

Donegal & Galway: Two longer weekends. Theory delivered via online learning
Online: Theory and practical delivered via online learning plus one weekend workshop
